Tis the season for not only Christmas and New Years but also for Colds and Flu’s! Do you know the difference?
COLDS… come on gradually, you will have a sore or scratchy throat, then a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, finally a cough and fatigue. You may not have a fever. Colds last a week to 10 days but the cough can linger for weeks more.
FLU….comes on suddenly, chills, dry cough, headache, muscle aches, stuffy nose, extreme fatigue, weakness. Temperature of over 100* or more. Can last one to two weeks, but weakness and fatigue may last longer.
If you have a COLD, rest drink lots of fluids and take over counter pain medications, vitamin C and Echinacea. If you have the FLU, rest drink lots of fluids take over counter pain medications, Elderberry has been shown to be helpful. Tamiflu has been shown to shorten the duration of the flu if started within 48 hours of symptoms. Hand sanitizer is a good thing to have on hand when out shopping especially because there are more people out for holidays.
Read the labels, not all multisymptoms products are necessary. Take a product for just the symptoms you are experiencing. REMEMBER antibiotics won’t help a cold or a flu. The treat bacterial infections , not viruses.
Have a safe holiday and stay healthy!!
